National Apple Day

Did you know that in ancient Greece if a man throws an apple to a woman it’s regarded as a proposal of marriage? If she catches it, then she accepts.   Imagine if the man of your dreams throws you a granny smith and you’re a bit of a butter fingers?

Your whole life in ruins, comfort yourself by transforming that mischievous apple into a cake (receipe from the lovely Abby).

  • 225 g plain flour
  • 110g sugar
  • 110g soft butter
  • 1 egg beaten
  • A little milk (to mix to cake mixture consistency)
  • 2 tspn baking powder
  • 2 tspn mixed spice
  • 450g cooking apples, peeled and chopped

Pre-heat the oven to 180c.   After beating the egg, put all the ingredients (except the apple) in a large mixing bowl and whisk.  Mix in the apples using a spoon and put in a lined loaf tin, bake for 45 minutes.  After cooking leave to cool.  Enjoy in large slices with a cup of tea and your favourite people around you.
