Bampton Longhouse-Devon
The immaculate Bampton Longhouse is nestled into the hillside, and embraces you from the moment you walk in. Beams, cosy sofas, wood burners, this is very much a house to totally relax in and feel cosseted.
Availability & Prices
An archetypal farmhouse, with some parts dating back 750 years. A sublime blend of historic quirks with all the contemporary features you want. Totally renovated in 2021 and now ready to welcome you. We see this as a house for long walks, delicious dinners, animated conversations around the farmhouse table and a mellow glass of wine by the fire.
Social Spaces
Through the front door and turn left to the large, country style kitchen with all the mod cons. A large induction range, plenty of work surfaces and equipment for easy catering for your group.
It’s a space that seems to naturally lend itself to being at the heart of your stay. Space for the chefs in your group and the spectators! All your dining is at the big table with plenty of room for everyone to sit together.
There are two sitting rooms; both with wood burners. One, with a large Inglenook fireplace, an ideal space to curl up and read.
The second sitting room has a light, airy sophisticated feel to it, again with those headline views of the surrounding Devon countryside. There’s plenty of space to gather together and a widescreen tv for those not to be missed matches or a movie night.
Bedrooms and En-Suites
The bedrooms strike the right balance of elegant simplicity and comfort, attractive curtains enhance the pretty windows framing the views of hills and rolling fields at the front of the house. A ground floor single bedroom with an en-suite shower looks out towards the back hillside.
Two separate staircases lead to two bedrooms each (these 2 parts of the first floor don’t connect). Every bedroom either has an en-suite, or its own bathroom nearby.
Fun spaces
The farmhouse kitchen with slate floor and large table, made for sitting around, drinking endless cups of tea for many hours, moving on to a glass of wine as the evening draws in.
Leading off the second sitting room is the study, you’re still at the centre of the party, even if there is a must send email.
The outdoor and indoor facilities, combined with those available locally, make a holiday here as eventful as you choose.
Hot Tub, Nature Ponds and Gardens
A large hot tub sits in a sheltered position at the side of the house, making the most of the views from its elevated position.
The area at the back of the house rises up towards the hills. At the side and front, there is level space for games. Or, wander past the horse’s field, along the natural pathway, to the pair of wildlife ponds. Spot dragonflies sitting on the lily pads, frogs and newts feeding. Between November & March, (check with the owner first, please) walk through the 65 acres of the farmland and be rewarded with a sighting of the wild red deer that overwinter in this valley.
At the front of the house 2 large (picnic) tables and a fire pit for evenings outdoors, watching the setting sun and enjoying time together with your group.
During your stay
Located on the edge of Exmoor, the farmhouse is a convenient location to explore the beautiful Devon countryside. Explore the local village of Bampton, with several excellent restaurants and small shops, or the excellent country pubs in the area, for lunch or a sample of the local ale.
Nearby Wimbleball Lake (9 miles), has plenty of cycling and walking, throughout its 500 acres. As you’d imagine there is a wide selection of water activities – kayaking, sailing, paddle boarding and fishing.
Knighthayes, owned by the National Trust is a fascinating insight into a bygone age of an estate, its magnificent property, stables, kitchen garden and vast acreage. Don’t miss the opportunity to have lunch at The Lost Kitchen nearby, a gem of an eatery.
